Waiter waiter there's a hair in my soup...

“Statistics show that of those who contract the habit of eating, very few survive.” – George Bernard Shaw.
Here at Speyside Specialities we are proud to know exactly what goes into our products.
But if you thought the recent horse meat scandal was a step too far then you might be shocked by the hidden ingredients in some of your favourite foods.
Waiter waiter there’s a hair in my soup.

We’ve all heard the jokes but did you know that L-Cysteine  - an amino acid used to prolong shelf-life in products such as commercial bread – is found in duck and chicken hairs, but most hair used in food is human.

In China hair is gathered from barber shops and hair salons to be sold on for food production. Don’t worry if your tucking into a Speyside Specialites Pork Sausage Sandwich though, if you bought the bun from a baker you’re clear as it’s not an additive in flour.

A liquid diet is the way forward I hear you say, think again!
Just when you thought a nice cold glass of Guinness was safe, little did you know that Isinglass, a gelatine-like substance produced from the swim bladder of a fish is a key component of your drink to stop it from going hazy.
And not even a soft drink is safe, if your drink has propylene glycol in it then you’re drinking something that is used for everything from antifreeze to cosmetics to pharmaceuticals and electronic cigarettes.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve discovered in your food?
